William,

Child support ordered will depend on both parents' income levels and the laws of the state where the divorce papers are filed. Alimony may be awarded at the judge's discretion, but permanent alimony will only be ordered if your wife is unable to support herself.

I am currently serving 21 years in the military. My wife and I have been married for 17 years. I know she will get 1/2 of my retirement check. We are currenly overseas in Japan and looking to divorce. We have two sons, under 18, on 12 the other 17. She will not be working once she goes back to the states, however she will once she gets there. What kind of child support and alimony am I looking at, figuratively please? Thank you.

Michelle,

If your husband is able to support himself, you may not be ordered to pay him support. Please consult with an attorney to get specific advice for your situation.

We are married for three years, my husband is a real estate broker (self-employed planning to apply retirement for the next three years) and I am a registered nurse. I am earning more income than my husband. If we divorce, am I oblige to pay alimony to him?

Michelle:

It would depend on whether you are able to support yourself. You may be able to get alimony for a time so that you can upgrade your skills so that you will be able to get work. A lawyer will be able to evaluate your situation and give you specific advice.
