Upset Ami,

I can certainly understand your frustration with the system. You do have the option of working with a private support collection agency. These companies usually charge a percentage of the amount recovered as a fee. The National Coalition for Child Support Options web site can give you more information, including a list of companies.

I am so upset! I have had a support order for 10 years now and never asked for a review. I moved to ohio 2 years ago and asked for a review for support payment. I was given the run around for one and a half years through the ohio child support office. I have all documentation for the last two years that they messed up all the paperwork and just this may got the ball rolling. I have an out of state order so I am told it could take up to 2 years however it has been that long and I am told that I have to wait longer. This is not right nor is it fair that I have to keep waiting to have this reviewed. I can understand 6 months or 1 year but two going on even longer!! Does any one know how to get this process moving any faster. His father is in the military and I don't want him to leave overseas again before anything is done. When he is gone I can't do anything at all till he comes back. Please any advice would be most helpful. I am stuck in a rut and have no tools to climb out!

Upset,

I can understand your frustration. There have been a number of news stories about parents who don't pay their child support as ordered and the ones who are living up to their responsibilities don't make the press. Both parents do have a legal responsibility to provide for their children, and if you want to find out whether getting the amount that your husband pays lowered is a realistic option, then I would suggest that you consult a lawyer.

Why is it that the fathers that are responsible and take care of their kids are the ones that get raked over the coals? We have shared parenting with my husbands ex and we have always paid child support on time (even when he was laid off his job) now that he got a new job that pays significantly less than his old one (at least he has a job.) We were approved for a review only to find out that we will probably have to pay more because the mother continues to have more children with a different man and that effects her annual income by 3000 per child so she basically gets to claim that she makes no income... how is that fair Child support already takes out 1/3 of his bring home every month and she doesn't really work because she lives with her boyfriend so she has no income... I do not under stand how we can have her half of the time pay for all extracurricular and pay so much in child support that she uses on her other kids.... its not the way the system was meant to work.

Fed Up,

I can understand that you are frustrated. The office is probably working with limited resources, but that doesn't help your situation. You do have the option of getting help from a private child support recovery company that will take a percentage of the money recovered as a fee.

clark county ohio child support is a joke. i have been trying to get my support since 1997, they say they cant find my husband but hes a truck driver, well if he works why not track him down... now they want to close my case after him not paying for all these years..this is the most redicules thing i have ever heard, this man hasnt paid but maybe 2 yrs out of 13 for 3 children now two are grown and not able to collect and one still needs support but cant get it. this state needs to improve their system about 120 percent

Really Dislikes,

I would suggest that you submit proof (copies of canceled checks, etc.) that you are up to date with payments and ask Ohio Child Support to update their records immediately. You may want to submit this information by registered mail so that you have a record of when it was received. If that doesn't get you the results you are looking for, consult with a lawyer to see what other legal remedies are available to you.

we have been paying child support for several years, for the past 3 years tax returns have been taken due to rearage (judge decided to award the mother back support from the date the child was born), we were fine with that we paid an extra 100.00 a month plus lost our tax returns. Now the Ohio child support payment central still showes that we owe (which we do not, they even sent us a 300.00 check because of overpayment), but it is not showing on the statement that it is paid up and they are STILL taking the 100.00 extra out a month from my husbands paycheck. I understand the need to pay for this child, that is not the problem, the problem is now that we are paid up, we are not getting the little bit of extra money that we could be getting because the agency is taking their slow time in recognizing that we have paid.
